The city of Chengdu, a central pillar of Sichuan's aerospace industry cluster, is striving to establish itself as a nationally leading model city for commercial space activities. Space computing power, a key driver for expanding the commercial space industry chain, is also experiencing vigorous growth in Chengdu. Leveraging systematic policy planning, a comprehensive industrial foundation, and technological breakthroughs from leading chain enterprises, Chengdu is constructing a complete industrial system spanning from satellite manufacturing to computing power services.
A robust industrial foundation provides the core confidence for the rapid emergence of the space computing sector. Chengdu's deep-rooted legacy in electronics, information technology, and aerospace provides solid supporting infrastructure for the development of space computing and the broader commercial space industry. Currently, the city's aviation manufacturing sector has attracted over 1,000 upstream and downstream enterprises, with an industrial scale nearing 140 billion yuan.
"5G NTN (Non-Terrestrial Network) technology enables direct mobile phone connectivity via sky-based stations like satellites and high-altitude platforms. Our company possesses end-to-end core technologies and products for satellite-ground communication. The satellite communication payload products we have developed and manufactured have completed multiple successful launches, achieved orbit, and are operating stably in space," explained Luo Yi, Deputy General Manager of Sichuan Chuangzhilianheng Technology Co., Ltd. The company has developed a series of low-earth orbit satellite communication products and solutions based on its fully self-developed wireless communication core technology.
Simultaneously, Chengdu is continuously enhancing its ground-based computing infrastructure to create a complementary computing power system that works in synergy with space-based computing. In January of this year, the 2026 Quantum Technology Industrial Ecology Development Conference and the "Four-Chain Integration" Supply-Demand Matchmaking Meeting was held in Chengdu. At the event, China Telecom unveiled the first fully domestically-produced "Four-Computing Integration" super node in western China, marking the first deep integration of quantum computing power with general-purpose computing, intelligent computing, and supercomputing. This initiative aims to build a layered, complementary, and highly efficient new quality computing power system based on domestic technology.
In May, a construction launch ceremony was held for the Tianfu Cloud Computing Center, located south of Chengdu's Xinglong Lake. With a total floor area of approximately 28,000 square meters, the center, upon completion, will provide 3600P of intelligent computing power, precisely targeting computing needs such as AI training and large model development. It is set to become a key incremental project for expanding and enhancing the quality of the Chengdu Tianfu Data Center Cluster.
Leading chain enterprises are accelerating their technological breakthroughs, continuously consolidating their leading industry positions. In May 2025, Chengdu Guoxing Aerospace Technology Co., Ltd. deployed the world's first space computing constellation via a single launch carrying twelve satellites. In December of the same year, the company signed an agreement with Shanghai Jiao Tong University to jointly establish the country's first joint laboratory for space computing.
"This year is pivotal for the full acceleration of Guoxing Aerospace's 'Star Computing' plan. 'Star Computing' involves deploying artificial intelligence computing power onto satellites in space, enabling them to process data in orbit and make intelligent decisions. Building on the foundation of deploying the world's first space computing constellation, the company will accelerate the pace of subsequent network expansion. The ultimate goal is to build a global space AI computing power network using 2,800 computing satellites," said Zhao Hongjie, Executive Vice President of Chengdu Guoxing Aerospace Technology Co., Ltd.
From technological breakthroughs to industrial momentum, the development of Chengdu's space computing industry will effectively address the coverage limitations of ground-based computing power. It is expected to play a positive role in driving the development of diverse scenarios such as the digital economy, low-altitude economy, and embodied intelligence.
Centered on the goal of building a commercial aerospace industry agglomeration zone, Chengdu has set targets: by 2027, the city aims to have more than 7 leading chain enterprises, over 40 specialized and sophisticated "little giant" enterprises, and more than 12 listed companies within the commercial space sector.
