SpaceX's Market Debut Ranks Among Charles Schwab's Top Five Busiest Trading Days Ever

Last week, the public debut of SpaceX on the stock market propelled Charles Schwab into one of the five busiest trading periods in its 55-year history.

"Looking back at the various market events we've witnessed over the past 50 years, it's truly remarkable that this IPO ranks among the top five," stated Charles Schwab CEO Rick Wurster in an interview on Thursday. "I believe this stems from retail investors' tangible sense of the level of innovation within our economy."

SpaceX conducted the largest initial public offering in history last Friday. Its prospectus listed Charles Schwab, alongside Robinhood Markets, Fidelity Investments, SoFi Technologies, and Morgan Stanley's E*Trade, as one of the five primary retail investment platforms distributing shares to individual investors. Clients of these platforms were allocated at least one share in this IPO.

Wurster noted on Thursday that SpaceX attracted demand from retail investors across all age groups and backgrounds. Charles Schwab handled approximately 140,000 client calls related to the first day of trading. It was reported earlier this month that in anticipation of the SpaceX listing, Charles Schwab had expanded its IPO-dedicated team to ten times its original size.

"These companies now have a much longer runway before going public, so they have created tremendous value during that private period," he said. "And people are eager to get a piece of it."
