Café de Coral released its 2025/26 Sustainability Report detailing progress on environmental, social and governance targets across more than 570 outlets in Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland.
Environmental Performance • Energy: Group consumption in Hong Kong fell 3.3 % to 241.97 million kWh, cutting energy-use intensity 25.8 % below the 2013/14 baseline and beating the 2029/30 interim target of ‑30 %. Chinese Mainland operations lowered energy-use intensity 17.4 % versus 2013/14. • Emissions: Scope 1 and 2 emissions in Hong Kong dropped 10.4 % year-on-year to 81,483 tonnes CO₂e; intensity is now 47.5 % below the baseline, exceeding the 2029/30 target of ‑30 %. Mainland intensity fell 28.6 %. • Renewable energy: New rooftop solar at mainland plants produced 1.76 million kWh, while steam-condensate heat recovery saved 225 tonnes of water. • Waste: 46 % of Hong Kong food waste and 100 % of mainland food waste were recycled. Used-cooking-oil recovery reached 568,300 litres in Hong Kong and 183,500 litres in the mainland. • Packaging: FSC- or PEFC-certified paper packaging expanded across four brands; single-use plastics reduced via “on-request” utensil policy and reusable poon-choi container return scheme.
Social Metrics • Workforce: 11,874 employees in Hong Kong and 5,570 in Chinese Mainland; female staff account for 66 % and 58 % respectively. • Training: 99.9 % of Hong Kong staff and 98.4 % of mainland staff received training; average training hours totalled 83.6 in Hong Kong and 97.4 in Chinese Mainland for frontline employees. • Safety: Zero work-related fatalities for the seventh consecutive year; lost-time days fell 11 % in Hong Kong and 22 % in Chinese Mainland.
Supply Chain and Sourcing • Strategic supplier audits covered 126 Hong Kong and 190 mainland vendors; four non-compliant suppliers in the mainland were terminated. • 78 % of seafood purchased in Hong Kong now holds third-party sustainability certification (MSC/ASC). • Partnership with a Yuen Long aquaculture farm introduced locally farmed grey mullet to Shanghai Lao Lao menus, supporting lower logistics emissions and local heritage.
Community and Customer Initiatives • “Bon Appétit Café” food-aid programme delivered HK$3.20 million worth of meals, including HK$2 million in vouchers for Tai Po fire victims and 18,000 soft-meal coupons for elderly beneficiaries. • Luncheon Star supplied 80 % low-sodium lunches to schools and expanded its “Star Meal” range to improve nutrition. • Café de Coral’s “Poon Choi Container Recycling Programme” collected reusable festive pots at 10 outlets; The Spaghetti House and Oliver’s Super Sandwiches achieved “Three-Leaf” ratings under Swire Properties’ Green Kitchen Initiative.
Governance and Recognition • The Board oversees ESG strategy; a Group Sustainability Committee met three times during the year. • Café de Coral fast food earned a 4-Star Low Carbon Restaurant Award and a Hong Kong Environmental Excellence Silver Award. • The Group maintained ISO 14001 certification at Luncheon Star plants and headquarters canteen and received the CTgoodjobs Best HR Awards for employee health and safety.
Looking Ahead With mid-term energy, emissions and water-reduction goals met ahead of schedule, Café de Coral targets further cuts of 30 % in Hong Kong energy and GHG intensity and 25 % in water intensity, all by 2029/30, against the 2013/14 baseline. The Group plans additional efficiency projects, renewable installations and expanded supplier engagement to advance its low-carbon transition.
