A bustling scene unfolds inside the standardized processing workshops of the agricultural product primary processing and distribution sorting centers in Xiaoqiao Village and Longfeng Village, Qingyi Town, Fucheng District, Mianyang City. Workers are methodically sorting, cleaning, and packaging fresh fruits and vegetables, classifying them by grade and weighing them for dispatch. Batches of high-quality agricultural products are packed and ready to be delivered to major markets, supermarkets, and residents' dining tables.
As the core vehicle for expanding Qingyi Town's new rural collective economy, the center spans approximately 5,000 square meters and is equipped with four standardized sorting production lines. It can process around 100 tons of fruits and vegetables daily, with an annual throughput of roughly 30,000 tons, covering over 3,000 mu of surrounding fruit and vegetable planting bases. It stands as the largest integrated agricultural product sorting and distribution processing facility in Fucheng District.
"In 2025, we secured support funds for the new rural collective economy to build this sorting center, which officially began operations in January 2026, filling the gap in centralized standardized sorting of agricultural products across the town," said Wang Bo, co-director of the sorting centers in Xiaoqiao Village and Longfeng Village. Leveraging its proximity to major markets such as Xingnongmen, Gaonongsi, and agricultural wholesale distributors, the center has established an industrial ecosystem driven by market demand, processing enhancement, and streamlined circulation. This has effectively addressed long-standing challenges of scattered sales, inconsistent quality, inefficient logistics, and low added value for local agricultural products.
"Now, through professional operations and standardized processing, the center maintains stable connections with urban markets, bringing local quality produce from the fields to thousands of households. Rural 'specialty products' have transformed into market 'best-sellers,' while village-level collective assets continue to be revitalized, securing more stable and diversified income channels," Wang Bo added.
Alongside industrial upgrading, Qingyi Town has been continuously innovating its collective economy development model, actively exploring sustainable and stable revenue-generating operational pathways. The center adopts an "asset operation" model, establishing a closely linked benefit mechanism among farmers, new business entities, and village-level collective economic organizations, ensuring that industrial development gains remain in rural areas and benefit the people.
Since its launch, the center's operational efficiency has steadily improved. It has directly generated approximately 390,000 yuan in collective income for the villages, providing solid financial support for infrastructure improvements, public service enhancements, and public welfare initiatives. Additionally, the center routinely provides nearly 100 employment opportunities for nearby residents.
"I used to farm at home with unstable income. Now I work at the sorting center right by my doorstep—simple work, close to home, and a steady monthly income. Life feels more secure," said Su Changqiong, a villager from Xiaoqiao Village who has been employed at the center long-term.
Liu Min, deputy director of Qingyi Town's Rural Revitalization Office, noted that the center's operation not only addresses the town's agricultural product processing and circulation shortcomings but also establishes a long-term mechanism for connecting farmers, strengthening villages, and enriching rural communities. In particular, for vulnerable groups such as low-income households, Qingyi Town has leveraged this project to implement targeted measures, prioritizing their nearby employment. By offering flexible and stable job opportunities, the center effectively resolves income challenges for these groups, firmly anchoring the achievements of poverty alleviation consolidation within the industrial foundation.
"Moving forward, Qingyi Town will use the agricultural product sorting center as a springboard to extend the industrial chain, refine the farmer-connecting mechanisms, promote quality agricultural products to broader markets, and inject strong momentum into the town's comprehensive rural revitalization," Liu Min concluded.
