Baotou's Aldin Square was bustling with activity at 7 a.m. on August 8. Large screens cycled through promotional animations highlighting the theme of fostering a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation and National Fitness Day, igniting the square's atmosphere early on.
At 9 a.m., the 2026 National Fitness Day main venue event for Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region officially launched. Under the theme "National Games for All, Shared Integration," the event was organized by the Autonomous Region Sports Bureau and co-hosted by the Autonomous Region Social Sports Service Center, Baotou Sports Bureau, and Kunming District People's Government. It closely followed the core theme of fostering a sense of community for the Chinese nation, seamlessly integrating nationwide fitness with comprehensive health into the morning light of Baotou's August.
The launch ceremony featured representatives of social sports instructors from three generations—old, middle-aged, and young—who jointly read a proposal for nationwide fitness, urging all sectors of society to actively participate in physical exercise. Leaders and guests together touched the activation pillar, releasing a flock of doves into the sky, creating a solemn and warm atmosphere in the square. Subsequently, over 1,100 fitness enthusiasts delivered a 40-minute large-scale cultural and sports performance. The mighty drumming opened with the profound resonance of "Praise to the Yellow River"; the classic piece "Prairie Morning Song" in the "Spirit of the Deer City" chapter narrated Baotou's industrial civilization intertwined with grassland charm. Street dance, rollerblading, traditional martial arts, kung fu fans, and ethnic unity fitness exercises took turns on stage, blending traditional wellness with trendy sports. People of all ages—old, middle-aged, youth, and children—collectively painted a vivid picture of mass sports in northern China.
As the performance continued, welfare service zones in the square opened simultaneously. In the Scientific Fitness Guidance Zone, social sports instructors corrected movements one-on-one, distributing free "Fitness E-Tips" online courses, serving over a thousand citizens throughout the day. The Fun Challenge Zone was the most popular, featuring eight low-barrier activities like kangaroo jumping, precision pitch-pot, and mini golf, requiring no team formation or physical contact. Families with children and middle-aged and elderly fitness enthusiasts took turns, joyfully collecting stamps to exchange for prizes. A National Fitness-themed float set off from the square, touring along Aldin Street, Steel Street, and Minzu East Road, spreading fitness concepts through city streets. The Sports Lottery Public Welfare Exhibition Zone used visuals and explanations to help the public intuitively understand the strong support of public welfare funds for local fitness facilities.
In the afternoon, the 16th Autonomous Region Games mass group radio gymnastics competition kicked off in the square. Teams displayed full spirit and synchronized movements, with judges scoring on-site and results announced in real time. The competition continued until 7:30 p.m., and after the award ceremony, athletes and citizens gathered to watch the live broadcast of the 16th Games opening ceremony, bringing a warm conclusion to the day's sports excitement.
From dawn to dusk, Baotou's Aldin Square witnessed a 14-hour fitness craze. With eight major sections linked, over a thousand performers on stage, and all-day welfare services, this event, themed "National Games for All, Shared Integration," made sports passion resonate with the city's pulse. As the host venue, Baotou's Kunming District delivered a high-scoring performance in sports welfare.
