On August 22, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, in collaboration with relevant authorities in Shenzhen, carried out the largest joint traffic and pedestrian flow stress test ever held at the Huanggang Port. The exercise mobilized over 10,000 civil servants and nearly 1,000 private vehicles to participate.
The drill featured multiple testing dimensions, completing more than 400 round trips of public transport shuttle services. For the first time, a real-scenario validation was conducted on the cooperative inspection self-service clearance channels, with participants using Home Return Permits and Hong Kong identity cards to complete the full entry and exit procedures in phases, testing system compatibility and crowd management efficiency.
The exercise also included a concentrated surge scenario, simulating a large influx of holiday peak travelers arriving at the public transport interchange. This was designed to test the anti-congestion mechanisms and cross-departmental coordination capabilities. Simultaneously, the joint one-stop lanes completed nearly 1,000 vehicle tests, simulating the full customs inspection process to verify the reliability of traffic scheduling and on-site guidance systems.
Relevant officials stated that all parties will thoroughly review the specific issues identified during the drill, continuously optimize the entire clearance process, deepen cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and accelerate all preparatory work for the new port to ensure its safe and smooth opening in the future.
