Strong Financial Performance Among NEEQ Firms Bolsters Beijing Stock Exchange IPO Pipeline

A number of companies listed on the National Equities Exchange and Quotations (NEEQ), serving as a pipeline for initial public offerings (IPOs) on the Beijing Stock Exchange (BSE), reported significant growth in their 2025 financial results. Data from Wind shows that as of March 30, 411 NEEQ-listed firms had disclosed their 2025 annual reports, with over half achieving increases in both revenue and profit.

Among these, Guangzhou Pharmaceutical (874839.NQ) and Hanlinhui (835281.NQ) each reported annual revenues exceeding 10 billion yuan. More than 60 companies reported net profits surpassing 100 million yuan. The latest net profit figures for some NEEQ companies have already exceeded the financial criteria required for a BSE IPO. Estimates based on metrics such as market capitalization, net profit, and weighted average return on equity (ROE) indicate that dozens of the recently reporting firms meet the BSE's listing requirements.

The performance of these early-reporting companies in 2025 generally demonstrated dual breakthroughs in revenue and profit, highlighting their core competitiveness and sustained growth potential within their respective sectors. Analysts suggest this reflects both improved operational capabilities and the positive influence of the BSE, alongside ongoing reforms and functional enhancements within the NEEQ market that empower high-quality small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

With a tiered path to listing now established, companies on the NEEQ Innovation Layer have become the primary source for future BSE listings. Their recent financial performance is considered a key indicator for assessing the quality of potential future BSE entrants. BSE listing rules require, among other criteria, that an applicant must have been continuously listed on the NEEQ Innovation Layer for 12 months and have net assets of no less than 50 million yuan as of the most recent year-end. The exchange also provides four sets of listing standards centered on "market capitalization + financial metrics."

The BSE recently surpassed 300 listed companies, marking a new phase of development. Since its inception in November 2021 with 81 companies, the number of listed firms has grown nearly fourfold. NEEQ enterprises remain a crucial source for BSE IPOs. Market observers note that the BSE IPO pipeline is currently characterized by ample reserves, an optimized structure, and improving quality. This is attributed to a expanding pool of Innovation Layer companies with stable operations and profitability, particularly in sectors aligned with the BSE's focus, such as advanced manufacturing, new energy, and new materials.

The robust financial results from high-performing NEEQ companies have led to discussions about whether this signals a de facto increase in the BSE's IPO threshold. However, analysts clarify that, from a regulatory perspective, the official listing standards for the BSE have not been raised. The emergence of applicants with stronger performance, larger scale, and better growth prospects is seen as a reflection of the effective synergy between the BSE and NEEQ, indicating a maturing market ecosystem that successfully attracts and retains high-quality SMEs. The perceived rise in application quality is viewed as an outcome of market-driven selection mechanisms rather than a regulatory tightening of entry requirements.
