At the New Energy Vehicle Global Cooperation Development Forum (GNEV2026), held in Shanghai from August 19 to 21, Li Xiaohe, Executive Vice President of NXP Semiconductors NV and General Manager of its China business, shared his insights on the automotive industry's new path to global collaboration.
Li pointed out that the globalization of Chinese automakers requires solving two distinct cycles: the internal cycle and the external cycle. He explained that NXP Semiconductors NV's strategy leverages its global supply chain, global innovation capabilities, and global ecosystem to meet the demands of the external cycle, while relying on local innovation to drive the internal cycle, addressing each with tailored approaches.
He emphasized that for multinational companies, operating "in China, for China" is a fundamental and essential commitment. Li stressed that genuine localization goes beyond selling products in China or manufacturing locally; it means truly placing product definition and development authority in China to align with local market needs.
To achieve this, NXP Semiconductors NV is building end-to-end engineering knowledge capabilities, covering product management and definition, product design, front-end and back-end manufacturing. This enables the company to collaborate with leading Chinese customers in defining, designing, and producing products from start to finish, while also expanding overseas together with its clients as they globalize.
