It has been reported that Lorraine Chan, the former head of corporate communications at both Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd (HKEX) and Link REIT (00823.HK), is set to join the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) on September 1, taking on the newly created role of Chief Communications Officer.
Market sources indicate that the SFC informed its staff of the appointment through an internal memo over the past weekend.
Chan joined Link REIT in January 2019 as Managing Director of Corporate Affairs, overseeing corporate communications, brand development, and engagement with the media, government bodies, and community stakeholders. She remained in that position until her departure in April 2025.
Prior to her time at Link REIT, Chan spent 21 years at HKEX, starting in 1997 as a Corporate Communications Manager. She was promoted to head of the department in 2013, where she played a key role in communications efforts surrounding HKEX's demutualization, its merger with the futures exchange and clearing house, the group's listing, the acquisition of the London Metal Exchange, and the launch of the Stock Connect and Bond Connect programs. She also led the group's brand refresh initiative in 2016. When she left HKEX in October 2018, she held the title of Head of Corporate Communications and Managing Director.
