Walking through Wuzhou in August reveals a landscape of vibrant greenery and thriving activity. Rows of young corn sway in the wind, specialty fruits hang heavy on branches, and aquaculture ponds teem with life. Across the fields and villages, farmers are busy working and celebrating the promise of a good harvest. This scene of abundant grain, prosperous industries, and beautiful rural communities vividly illustrates the momentum of the city's comprehensive rural revitalization efforts.

In the first half of this year, Wuzhou prioritized agricultural, rural, and farmer (鈥淪annong鈥? work. Leveraging its unique agricultural resource advantages, the city focused on key areas such as ensuring food security, cultivating specialty industries, and building beautiful and harmonious villages. The gross output value of the city's agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery sectors grew by 4.5% year-on-year, marking a solid step forward in high-quality agricultural development.

Securing the Foundation of Food Security

From the summer grain harvest in July to the planting of late-season rice in August, the fields of Wuzhou embody the urgency of maximizing the farming season. In Niancun Village, Longwei Town, Longxu District, the fields harvested for early rice have been plowed and prepared for the next crop. Agricultural machinery moves through the fields in an orderly fashion, creating a busy scene. Farmer Zhong Yadi, who manages 60 mu of land, reported that his early rice yield was 600-650 kilograms per mu (wet weight), a significant increase compared to last year. With full mechanization, the harvest is quickly followed by plowing to take advantage of the sunny weather for planting late-season rice seedlings.

This success is a direct result of the precise application of improved seeds, advanced cultivation techniques, and modern machinery, along with the effective implementation of pro-agriculture policies. Since the beginning of this year, Wuzhou has rigorously implemented its responsibilities for food security. It has carried out initiatives to boost the yield of major grain and oil crops, including actions for high-yield, high-efficiency rice cultivation, increasing rice planting density and panicle number, and tackling high-yield challenges for rice and corn. By leveraging models such as centralized land transfer, commissioned farming, and the 鈥渆nterprise + farmer + base鈥?system, the city has expanded its cultivation potential. Agricultural departments at all levels have provided targeted guidance to ensure adequate grain planting. Concurrently, a series of practical measures, including grain subsidies, awards for large-scale growers, input supply guarantees, and the extension of agrotechnical services, have been actively implemented to precisely address the difficulties faced by farmers, ensuring that the early rice and other summer grain harvests are fully secured. Currently, the city's early rice planting area exceeds 800,000 mu, with the late-season rice area expected to reach over 770,000 mu.

Paving the Road to Shared Prosperity through Industrial Revitalization

Industrial growth is the engine for rural prosperity. Since the start of summer, various specialty fruits planted across Wuzhou, such as dragon fruit, grapes, wampee, and passion fruit, have ripened in succession, filling the air with their fragrance. Farmers are busy working in the orchards and under canopies, their clothes soaked with sweat, yet their faces beaming with the joy of a bountiful harvest. At Fengyu Manor in Lizhi Village, Guiyi Town, Cenxi City, grapevines are neatly arranged on trellises, laden with clusters of grapes. Workers are carefully picking the fruit in batches. Grower Zhong Ming noted, 鈥淭his year, the yield is about 1,500 kilograms per mu. The total production from our 40 mu is expected to be 60,000 kilograms. The vineyard grows high-quality varieties like Shine Muscat, Summer Black, and Queen Nina, attracting both tourists for picking and fruit merchants for wholesale purchases.鈥?lt;br>
This year, Wuzhou has continued to focus on building its 鈥渂asket鈥?base (vegetable supply base), actively developing modern facility agriculture, and expanding its 鈥渙ne village, one product鈥?specialty agricultural matrix. The goal is to elevate the foundation of its specialty agricultural industries to a higher level and modernize the industrial chain. By creating demonstration benchmarks for industrial development, boldly exploring smart agriculture models, and comprehensively advancing the construction of a modern agricultural industry system, the city is ensuring the successful implementation of agricultural projects. To date, Wuzhou has established 5,770 mu of high-quality vegetable bases targeting the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The planting area for crops like chives and specialty edible mushrooms is steadily expanding, while the scale of specialty fruit bases for dragon fruit, blueberries, and lychees is beginning to take shape.

The livestock and poultry breeding industry is also developing steadily. The city is accelerating the production and full-capacity operation of new pig farms, such as Changzhou Liyuan and Tengxian Haihe, as well as projects for Wen's poultry, Lihua broiler chickens, Minglong laying hens, and Tianlong sheep. Production of pigs, poultry, cattle, and sheep remains stable, while egg production continues to see high growth. Concurrently, Wuzhou is strengthening project support and enterprise leadership, focusing on extending the industrial chain, building brands, and attracting investment to enhance the quality and efficiency of its specialty agriculture. In conjunction with the implementation of projects like the Liubao Tea industrial cluster, the national reserve forest project, and the agricultural industry strong town initiative, the industrial chains of key enterprises such as Cangwu Tongda, Wanxiu Sweet Home, and Tengxian Fujintong are being progressively improved.

Painting a New Picture of Beautiful and Harmonious Villages

In Gulan Village, Jingshan Town, Cangwu County, flat and clean cement roads stretch into the distance. Farmhouses with white walls and red tiles are neatly arranged, surrounded by lush greenery and dotted with flowers. Villagers are seen working in the fields or exercising in the square. 鈥淭he village environment has improved significantly, and everyone now consciously maintains the cleanliness of the village, working together to build a beautiful home,鈥?said villager Liao Guanyin. This is a true reflection of Wuzhou's implementation of the 鈥淭housand Villages Demonstration, Ten Thousand Villages Renovation鈥?project.

Since the beginning of the year, Wuzhou has coordinated efforts to improve infrastructure, upgrade village appearance, promote civilized rural customs, and enhance grassroots governance. The city has laid 29 kilometers of cement or asphalt concrete roads, completed sewage treatment tasks in 47 administrative villages, and improved the domestic waste collection, transport, and disposal system, with the treatment rate remaining stable at over 98%. In the second half of the year, Wuzhou will redouble its efforts to meet grain production targets, implementing the strategy of storing grain in the land and storing grain in technology. The goal is to achieve a grain planting area of 2.132 million mu and a stable output of over 717,000 tons. The city will also accelerate the adoption of modern facility agriculture, develop deep processing, and continue to polish its reputation as a high-quality agricultural product supply base for the Greater Bay Area, writing a new chapter in the high-quality development of Wuzhou's agricultural, rural, and farmer sectors.
