AIA slashes share capital by 56.91 million shares after HKD 4.83 billion buyback; 0.27 million new shares issued on option exercise

AIA Group Limited disclosed that 56.91 million repurchased shares were cancelled on 7 May 2026. The repurchases, conducted between 30 March and 30 April at an average price of HKD 84.80 per share, returned approximately HKD 4.83 billion to shareholders and reduced the outstanding share count by 0.54 % to 10.45 billion shares.

Concurrently, 273,939 new shares (0.27 million) were issued at HKD 67.67 per share following employee option exercises under the 2010 share option scheme, partially offsetting the cancellation.

Additional repurchases totalling 5.03 million shares executed between 4 and 7 May 2026—at volume-weighted average prices ranging from HKD 85.26 to HKD 89.15—remain outstanding for cancellation.

On 7 May 2026, the company bought back a further 262,000 shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange at prices between HKD 88.65 and HKD 89.85, spending HKD 23.36 million. All shares bought back are earmarked for cancellation.

Under the shareholder mandate granted on 23 May 2025, AIA is authorised to repurchase up to 1.07 billion shares. Cumulative buybacks now stand at 188.19 million shares, representing 1.76 % of the issued share capital on the mandate date. A moratorium on new share issues remains in effect until 6 June 2026.
