Care worker Xiao Cai, who has been serving the Cai couple for seven years, visits on the 6th of each month to provide haircuts, pedicures, and conversation. Initially resistant, she has grown into the role, noting that "the elderly are like children; they can feel your sincere service." Currently, 682 elderly residents in Yicheng Subdistrict benefit from this convenient service.
In April 2026, the subdistrict officially introduced Xiaocheng Group Kangliyuan Company to manage the home-based care project. The team of 50 care workers offers services such as house cleaning, haircuts, pedicures, and appliance cleaning, with each visit lasting at least 30 minutes. A typical visit involves asking the elderly about their needs, scanning to verify the service, performing tasks like haircuts, and documenting the process via photos uploaded to a smart elderly care platform. After finishing, workers check for additional needs, such as tidying bedrooms.
Standardized procedures are routine for the team. To improve quality and efficiency, the team conducts regular reviews and follow-ups: the project manager calls 15 service recipients monthly, and the full team calls 200. Monthly meetings involve training on service etiquette and skills, emphasizing the "reserve first, greet first, leave no trace" rule to enhance the elderly's care experience with enthusiasm and sincerity.
The subdistrict's online home care service is part of a broader effort to create a comprehensive senior care network. It has improved meal assistance by setting up two community dining points with smart facilities, disability-friendly features, and meal fee reductions for the elderly. To address health needs, it has collaborated with medical institutions for 13 free clinics and health consultations, along with fire safety lectures. For isolated elderly individuals, the subdistrict regularly holds charitable activities, including five free haircut services and three photography lectures, to ensure they are cared for and happy.
Eligibility for these universal home-based services for residents aged 80 and above requires applicants to be at least 80 years old and registered in Yicheng Subdistrict.
