South Korea's antitrust regulator, the Fair Trade Commission (FTC), announced on Thursday that it will launch an investigation into the wedding industry starting next month, targeting unfair pricing practices.
This probe follows a regulation introduced last year that mandates wedding planning service providers to disclose detailed fee schedules, cancellation terms, and refund policies on their official websites or the Korea Consumer Agency's site. The rule requires these providers to share such information with all affiliated service partners, including photography studios, bridal wear shops, and makeup salons.
"The purpose of this inspection is to encourage broader compliance with the new guidelines. Although the regulation took effect in November 2025, a significant number of businesses have yet to fully adhere to it," the FTC stated. The commission will verify whether wedding planners have made this critical data available online and impose fines of up to 100 million South Korean won (approximately $69,100 USD) on violators.
"Our goal is to enable engaged couples to make well-informed decisions by ensuring they have full access to pricing information," the FTC added.
