Recent Graduate Wage Dispute: Court Action Leads to Swift Payment of 280,000 Yuan

In September 2025, eight recent university graduates joined a technology company in Changzhou, only to face months of unpaid wages. After labor arbitration ruled the company must pay 286,000 yuan plus interest, the employer's legal representative, identified as Xu, refused to comply and deliberately evaded authorities.

Acting on a tip-off that Xu was staying at a local hotel, enforcement officers launched a late-night operation and brought him into custody. Despite initially making excuses after sobering up, the court employed an immersive education tactic, requiring Xu to observe a criminal trial for refusing to enforce a court judgment. Witnessing the severe legal consequences firsthand proved decisive.

Shaken by the experience, Xu changed his stance on the spot and paid the full arrears within 21 hours, settling the entire amount owed to the young employees.

This case highlights the growing legal pressure on employers who attempt to dodge wage obligations, with courts increasingly turning to unconventional methods to ensure justice for workers. The swift resolution underscores how direct exposure to judicial consequences can expedite compliance, offering a measure of relief to those affected.
