Levi's Q2 Earnings Hit $87.3 Million, Direct-to-Consumer Sales Exceed 50% for First Time

On July 8th, apparel manufacturer Levi Strauss & Co released its fiscal 2026 second-quarter report for the period ending May 31st. The company achieved revenue of $1.56 billion for the quarter, representing an approximate 8% increase from $1.45 billion in the same period last year. Net income was $87.3 million, compared to $67.0 million a year earlier.

Based on the second-quarter financial performance, Levi's revised its full-year outlook. The company raised its full-year sales growth forecast from a range of 5.5%-6.5% to 7%-7.5%. The expected range for adjusted earnings per share was also increased to $1.46 to $1.52.

Direct Sales Drive Structural Shift

The expansion of direct-to-consumer operations was the central factor influencing the quarter's revenue composition.

In the second quarter, net revenue from Levi's direct-to-consumer (DTC) channels grew by 11% year-over-year, accounting for 51% of total revenue. This marks the first time DTC sales have surpassed traditional wholesale revenue. Within this segment, e-commerce net revenue grew by 19%. Net revenue from the traditional wholesale channel increased by 5%.

Sources of Growth

Regarding the drivers of growth, approximately 50% of the quarter's revenue increase stemmed from product price increases, with the remaining 50% attributed to growth in actual unit sales volume.

Regional Performance

From a regional perspective, international markets provided the primary growth. Organic revenue in the Asian market grew by 12% in the second quarter, leading all regions.

Supply Chain and Tariff Considerations

In the supply chain segment closely linked to the Chinese market, company management disclosed that current financial expectations already incorporate the assumption that the U.S. will maintain a 30% tariff on imports from China. To mitigate this pressure, Levi's is adjusting its sourcing base, shifting some production capacity away from China and other locations to diversify tariff risk.

Profitability Metrics

On the profitability front, the company's gross margin for the quarter increased slightly by 10 basis points to 62.7%. Lower product line costs and the implementation of pricing strategies contributed to the gross margin expansion, but this was partially offset by foreign exchange fluctuations and the aforementioned tariff costs.

Core Brand Dominance

However, from a business structure perspective, the Levi's brand remains the company's core revenue source.

In recent years, the company has attempted to expand into non-denim categories such as womenswear and tops and has broadened its scope through the acquisition of the yoga apparel brand Beyond Yoga. However, the scale of these related businesses remains relatively limited and has not yet altered the company's primary reliance on its denim apparel business.

Future Growth Trajectory

A key focus for the market is whether Levi's can sustain its growth momentum.

Amid a slow recovery in overall apparel industry demand, the brand needs to continuously attract younger consumers and enhance sales performance through new product development and channel optimization. Simultaneously, while the increasing proportion of direct channels helps improve the profit structure, it also implies higher operational investments, requiring the company to balance scale growth with cost control.

Furthermore, the company has gradually adjusted its business portfolio in recent years, reducing investment in some non-core operations and concentrating more resources on the Levi's brand. This strategy aids in improving operational efficiency but also means future growth will depend more heavily on the market performance of the core brand itself.

Overall Assessment

Overall, Levi's second-quarter earnings report shows that the company achieved growth in both revenue and profit, with direct channels continuing to provide support and performance improving in some regional markets. However, given the ongoing uncertainty in the apparel consumption environment, the company's future growth still requires observation of its core brand competitiveness, changes in consumer demand, and the effectiveness of its channel adjustments.
