Unilever PLC shares surged 8.60% in pre-market trading, driven by the release of the company's first-half 2026 results that comfortably exceeded market expectations. The consumer goods giant reported a strong acceleration in underlying sales growth, underpinned by the highest quarterly volume growth in over 16 years.

The robust performance was highlighted by a 5.8% jump in underlying sales for the second quarter, fueled by a 5.5% surge in volumes. The Beauty & Wellbeing and Home Care segments were standout performers, with underlying sales rising 8.1% and 9.1% respectively, both led by volume expansion. Buoyed by this momentum, management raised its full-year 2026 guidance, now projecting underlying sales growth within its 4% to 6% multi-year range, up from a prior expectation of being at the bottom end of that range.

The earnings beat and upgraded outlook reinforced investor confidence in Unilever's strategic pivot toward health, personal care, and home products, as the company executes its plan to combine its foods business with McCormick. Analyst commentary was positive, with Barclays describing the volume growth performance as "exceptional" and RBC noting that even the softer food results in Europe validated the rationale for the McCormick tie-up.
