Rex International appoints Mike Hopkinson as Chief Operating Officer

Rex International Holding Limited announced on May, 06 2026 the appointment of Mike Hopkinson as Chief Operating Officer, succeeding Svein Kjellesvik, who is retiring after serving in the role since Oct, 01 2015.

Mike Hopkinson has been General Manager of Rex’s subsidiary Masirah Oil Ltd since 2023 and brings more than 30 years of international upstream oil and gas experience spanning the UK North Sea, Gulf of Mexico, Ghana, Equatorial Guinea, Ukraine, Georgia, Ecuador and Guatemala.

Before joining Masirah Oil Ltd, Hopkinson was Energy Transition Coordinator at Cox Oil in Dallas, Texas. He began his career in 1985 as an Operations Engineer with Marathon Oil Company in Aberdeen and later held senior positions at Kosmos Energy Inc., Caelus Energy LLC, Energy Resource Technology and Triton Energy Inc.

Hopkinson holds a Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College, UK, and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Engineering with Business Studies from the University of Portsmouth, UK.

Rex International Chief Executive Officer Per Lind thanked Kjellesvik for his contributions and said Hopkinson’s leadership at Masirah Oil Ltd and the Group’s upcoming drilling programme in Oman made him a suitable choice for the COO role.
