Marriage Registrations Now Available at Museums, Libraries, and Highway Service Areas

Since the nationwide implementation of marriage registration services in 2025, local governments have been creatively establishing new "landmark registration venues" for couples. Suzhou has moved registration points into its Gold Museum and public libraries, offering themes centered around "golden and jade unions" and "literary romance." Meanwhile, Shijiazhuang has made it possible for couples to conveniently tie the knot at highway service areas along their travels.

Beyond amplifying the ceremonial experience, numerous regions have introduced direct monetary incentives to encourage marriage. Lyuliang in Shanxi Province offers a 1,500 yuan reward for first-time marriages, while Mingxi in Fujian Province provides 3,000 yuan. Several other cities are also distributing marriage consumption vouchers to ease financial burdens.

The trend has sparked a surge in registration numbers, with a significant spike observed during the Qixi Festival in provinces like Henan and Guangdong. This evolution from cross-province travel to on-the-spot registration, and from administrative offices to culturally rich tourist spots, reflects a major shift in public service convenience — a move that citizens are likely to rate highly.
