Thomson Reuters' stock soared 5.07% during Tuesday's intraday trading session following the release of its first-quarter 2026 financial results, which significantly exceeded analyst expectations.
The company reported adjusted earnings per share of $1.23, beating consensus estimates of $1.20-$1.21 and marking an increase from $1.12 per share in the prior-year period. Revenue for the quarter reached approximately $2.09 billion, surpassing estimates of $2.04-$2.05 billion and representing nearly 10% year-over-year growth. The company also reaffirmed its full-year 2026 guidance, projecting 7.5% to 8.5% revenue growth.
CEO Steve Hasker attributed the strong performance to growing demand for the company's AI products, stating that professionals in law, tax, audit and compliance are increasingly choosing Thomson Reuters' "fiduciary-grade AI" solutions. The company also highlighted its capital returns program, including a $605 million return of capital transaction completed on May 4 and $262 million in share repurchases during the quarter.
