Over the next five days, 2,056 robots representing 666 teams from 16 countries across six continents will compete fiercely across 51 different events. The opening ceremony, themed "Wisdom Competes for the Future," featured a spectacular assembly of a thousand humanoid robots, showcasing the latest advancements in cutting-edge technology. The event began with a stunning musical performance where 36 humanoid robots from Linkerbot, equipped with dexterous five-fingered hands, played instruments like the electronic wind instrument, piano, drums, marimba, and guitar alongside human artists, delivering a harmonious "Ode to the Future." Following this, 80 T2 humanoid robots from Accelerated Evolution took center stage. A robot from the Tianzhuo team astonishingly completed the race in 9.39 seconds, surpassing the human world record of 9.58 seconds. This is a dramatic improvement from the 21.50 seconds recorded for the best time at the inaugural games last year. In the standing high jump exhibition, the Tiangong Ultra robot from Beijing soared to a height of 2.8843 meters, also breaking human records and significantly exceeding the 95.641-centimeter championship result from the previous year. This year's competition features a full upgrade, with many events eliminating manual remote control to operate fully autonomously, truly testing the robots' comprehensive abilities in environmental perception and independent decision-making using large models.
Human-machine interaction became a central theme of the ceremony. Robots engaged in a lively rally with tennis star Zheng Jie, played table tennis against Olympic champion Ding Ning, and tested their shooting skills against footballer Yang Chen. These interactions provided the audience with a clear demonstration of the robots' coordination between their "brain, hands, and feet," as well as their powerful dynamic perception and application capabilities. The engaging displays generated significant excitement for the robots' performances in the upcoming competitions. During the grand entrance, a robot from Dajia Robotics rode a four-legged robotic horse, carrying the games' flag. The flag itself features a running robot constructed from binary digits 0 and 1, representing the digital foundation of AI and the spirit of athletic competition. The atmosphere reached a fever pitch as large formations of humanoid robots entered the arena. Eighty Booster T2 robots from Accelerated Evolution marched in perfect synchronization, each one independently calculating its path and adjusting its posture in real-time. Mid-march, the robots collectively changed formation to spell out "BEIJING," a tribute to the host city and a hub for China's robotics industry. This local team had previously helped China win the Robot Football World Cup twice. Following them, 50 Tiangong embodied intelligence 3.0 robots from the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center autonomously navigated a curve, with the capability to perform high-difficulty moves like a "Thomas Flair." A formation of 25 Galbot G1 wheeled robots from Galbot showcased their ability to handle long, complex, and continuous tasks in simulated home, retail, and dining environments. An international delegation of athletes, who have excelled in various RoboCup World Cup events, marched in next, followed by a vibrant student contingent representing the future of Chinese tech innovation. The sight of thousands of robots moving in coordinated unison was not just a visual marvel but a comprehensive test of swarm control and collaborative perception technologies.
The ceremony also featured a symbolic "energy transfer" event, akin to the Olympic torch relay. This global journey saw the "flame" of the games passed through various locations, showcasing the Chinese approach to "Wisdom Competes for the Future." The relay included a robot lighting a torch in Milan, a robot delicately picking tea leaves in Fujian, robots rowing in a dragon boat race in Sichuan, and a robot performing the challenging tasks of horse riding and archery in Xinjiang. The energy journey concluded back in Beijing at the opening ceremony. Here, a robot seated on a robotic horse drew a bow and arrow, launching a beam of light that struck and illuminated the "Wisdom Core," the symbolic "sacred flame" of the humanoid robot games.
