Data from the analytics firm Adobe indicates that this Tuesday marked the highest single day for U.S. online sales so far this year, with American retailers generating $8.3 billion in e-commerce revenue, a 5.3% increase compared to the same period last year.

For context, online spending during last year's Thanksgiving reached $6.4 billion, while this year's Black Friday saw $11.8 billion in online sales, and Cyber Monday achieved $14.2 billion in online sales.

The firm's data, which tracks over one trillion visits to retail websites, shows the final sales figures exceeded prior expectations. Adobe had previously forecasted that total consumer spending during the four-day Amazon Prime Day event would reach $26.3 billion. This major sales event typically prompts a wave of competing promotional offers from various other retailers.

Adobe reported that essential product categories such as electronics, home appliances, and baby and toddler products were among the primary items purchased by consumers.
