Installed Building Products (IBP) experienced a significant pre-market plunge of 11.51% on Thursday, following the release of its first-quarter financial results.

The sharp decline was driven by the company's Q1 earnings and revenue missing analyst expectations. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $1.79, falling short of the $2.10 consensus estimate, while revenue of $660.5 million missed the expected $668.66 million. The results were impacted by a weak residential market, with same-branch sales within the installation segment falling 11.2% due to challenging regional weather and macroeconomic uncertainty affecting U.S. consumer sentiment and new home sales activity.

Furthermore, the company faced margin pressure from higher vehicle-related expenses and increased insurance costs. Despite double-digit growth in commercial installation sales, the overall performance was weighed down by the significant downturn in residential construction, leading to the pre-market sell-off.
