At the 2026 World Robot Conference Forum, held in Beijing from August 19 to 22, StarDynamics founder and CEO Chen Jianyu highlighted the immense potential of general-purpose robotics during his keynote speech. He emphasized that this sector is destined to become a trillion-dollar market, potentially driving a fundamental shift in global productivity.

Chen noted that general-purpose robots are set to emerge as the next generation of intelligent terminals, following the footsteps of transformative products like computers, smartphones, and automobiles—though this time in a humanoid form. He argued that the key to creating more versatile robots lies in two critical attributes.

The first attribute is a higher performance ceiling, enabling robots to execute tasks that were previously impossible for conventional machines and unlocking a wider array of application scenarios. The second is superior generalization capabilities, which would eliminate the need for bespoke development seen in traditional specialized robots, allowing the majority of core competencies to be directly reused and adapted across different tasks.

“Excelling in general-purpose robotics necessitates the simultaneous advancement of both software and hardware,” Chen stated. He added that StarDynamics has already achieved multiple breakthroughs in this regard, building a comprehensive full-stack resource base that integrates software and hardware for its general-purpose robot solutions.
