Shares of mainland Chinese insurance companies are trading higher across the board in Hong Kong, with sector momentum building as expectations for solid first-half earnings grow. China Life Insurance Co Ltd (HKEX: 2628) has advanced 4.12% to HK$27.80, while PICC Property and Casualty Co Ltd (HKEX: 2328) is up 3.8% at HK$16.12. Ping An Insurance Group Co of China Ltd (HKEX: 2318) has climbed 3.6% to HK$56.05, and New China Life Insurance Co Ltd (HKEX: 1336) has gained 2.86% to HK$47.48.

According to recent data from the National Financial Regulatory Administration, key indicators for the insurance industry maintained steady growth in the first half of 2026. Total assets continued to expand, while premium income and claims and benefit payments grew at reasonable year-on-year rates. Notably, since the second quarter, the property and casualty insurance segment has seen improved business structure and stronger revenue momentum.

Analysts at BOCOM International note that while investment returns created some earnings pressure for insurers in the first quarter due to capital market conditions, the second quarter brought marked improvement. This recovery is expected to drive a broadly positive trend in attributable net profits for the first half of the year.

Valuations across the Hong Kong-listed insurance sector remain near historic lows, providing a substantial margin of safety. Leading insurers, in particular, are seen as offering relatively compelling investment value, supported by the combined effect of a recovering capital market and improving industry profitability.
