Youthful Trust, Global Journey: CITIC Bank Refreshes Its "Youth Voyager" Credit Card

Deep News
Aug 13

On August 12, CITIC Bank held a press conference in Beijing to upgrade its overseas study financial services, where the bank's credit card division officially relaunched the enhanced "Youth Voyager" credit card. Building on the existing Visa version, the "Youth Voyager" card now adds iPlatinum cards from the UnionPay, Mastercard, and American Express networks, creating a comprehensive credit card matrix for international students covering all four major card schemes. This upgrade also includes enhanced dedicated services for studying abroad, broadening product choices and service coverage.

This refresh stems from CITIC Bank's credit card division's continuous insights into the real needs of families with students studying abroad. In recent years, the number of outbound students has grown steadily, and cross-border payment scenarios for students have become increasingly segmented. Addressing the core pain points of tuition fee payments, overseas spending, credit limit management, and security for these families, the latest "Youth Voyager" card has been upgraded in areas such as its product matrix, primary and supplementary card management, and exclusive services. It balances the convenience of overseas payments, the flexibility of family financial management, and the service guarantees needed for student life abroad.

CITIC Bank's credit card division stated that this upgrade of the "Youth Voyager" card system is not merely an iteration of the product matrix but a comprehensive reshaping of the financial services ecosystem for overseas study, based on the full-chain needs of these families. The division remains committed to its founding principle of "reassuring parents and satisfying students," aiming to build a warm bridge connecting families and the world through empathetic products and services.

Focusing on Study Abroad Scenarios: Building a More Comprehensive Product Matrix

As early as January 2023, CITIC Bank's credit card division launched the Visa version of the "Youth Voyager" card. With this product renewal, the card has expanded from a single Visa option to covering all four major card networks, enhancing its adaptability to different study destinations and consumption scenarios. Along with offering more product choices, the "Youth Voyager" card connects students and their families through a primary and supplementary card model: parents apply for the primary card, while students aged 14 and over can obtain a supplementary card. Parents can monitor their children's overseas spending in real-time online and flexibly manage credit limits, while students can use the supplementary card to pay for tuition and daily expenses abroad. This design balances the student's need for independent card usage with the family's management of financial security.

The four products in the CITIC Bank Youth Voyager card series each have distinct positioning. The original Visa Platinum card focuses on "peace of mind for studying abroad." It is restricted to overseas transactions, settles all transactions in RMB, waives the 1.5% foreign exchange handling fee, and provides international emergency assistance coverage of up to USD 1 million, enhancing emergency protection for unexpected situations abroad. The Mastercard iPlatinum card emphasizes "hassle-free study abroad." It also waives the 1.5% foreign exchange fee and, for cardholders who enroll and meet the conditions for the 2026 overseas spending cashback program, offers a maximum monthly cashback of USD 450 per account. The UnionPay iPlatinum card is designed for "flexible study abroad." Eligible cardholders can enjoy benefits such as access to overseas airport lounges and cashback on spending related to education and rental accommodation during the promotional period. The American Express iPlatinum card focuses on "meticulous study abroad." Cardholders who enroll in relevant activities may receive a 5% cashback on eligible overseas offline transactions and have a chance to win a 388 RMB JD.com E-card. This differentiated configuration across the four card networks not only enriches the card choices for families but also allows the credit card products and services to more precisely meet the actual needs of different study stages and consumption scenarios.

Providing Dedicated Support Throughout the Study Abroad Journey: More Thoughtful Companion Services

Alongside expanding the product matrix, CITIC Bank's credit card division has simultaneously upgraded the exclusive services for the "Youth Voyager" card. In 2026, the bank will launch a new 24/7 "Xiaoxin Study Abroad Butler" service. This dedicated team will handle card-related needs such as overseas card loss reporting, replacement, and credit limit adjustments around the clock. It will also provide value-added services for overseas travel, shopping, and personalized needs, ensuring constant online support anytime, anywhere to enhance the convenience of using the card abroad.

To address the information needs of students and their families, CITIC Bank's credit card division has innovatively launched the "Youth Voyager" exclusive live-streaming program. This program has been broadcast over 31 times, achieving over 7 million total online impressions. The content covers topics like culture, arts, and sports study abroad, and features study abroad experts and outstanding returned students sharing professional knowledge and overseas life experience one-on-one. Additionally, gifts like the "Youth Voyager" exclusive IP card character blind boxes and travel accessories help deepen the emotional connection with the younger demographic.

This product upgrade fully extends the financial services lifecycle to cover a student's entire study abroad journey. During the preparation phase, the iPlatinum cards, which can be used both domestically and abroad, can meet spending needs for visas and training courses in China. During the overseas study phase, the four card network versions cover different overseas payment scenarios, with the 24/7 "Xiaoxin Study Abroad Butler" providing card usage and life support. After the student returns home, the iPlatinum card products can continue to be used as everyday credit cards, offering long-term financial companionship from overseas planning to post-return life.

Looking ahead, CITIC Bank's credit card division will continue to enhance its overseas payment, security, and lifestyle services, using empathetic financial services to support and accompany more Chinese students and families as they venture out into the world.
