Two liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels caught fire after being struck by drones at a port on Egypt's Mediterranean coast on Wednesday. In a statement on Thursday, the Egyptian cabinet announced that initial investigations revealed the fires on the two LNG carriers were triggered by drone strikes, with no party yet claiming responsibility. The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources confirmed that the fires are under control and no injuries were reported.

An earlier advisory from security consulting firm EOS Risk Group indicated that the Gaslog Salem was hit by an unknown object on its starboard side while docked at Damietta port. In a separate report, maritime intelligence company Vanguard Tech stated that the Energos Winter was also attacked at the same port. This vessel is a regasification ship, which converts LNG into gas form for delivery into the local natural gas network.

The source of the attacks remains unclear, but the incident could further disrupt shipping amid rising regional tensions. U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States would retaliate against Iran following an attack on a Jordanian military base, escalating hostilities after a brief period of de-escalation.
