Thailand Inflation Accelerates for a Second Straight Month as Flooding Raises Price Risks

Thailand's inflation accelerated for a second consecutive month in September, edging closer to the upper limit of the central bank's target range, while severe flooding increased the risk of higher food prices.

Data released by Thailand's Commerce Ministry on Tuesday showed the consumer price index (CPI) rose 2.82% year-on-year in September, up from 2.53% in August.

However, the reading was still below the median forecast of 3.1% expected by economists surveyed by media outlets.

Despite the rebound in inflation, the rate remains within the Bank of Thailand's target range of 1% to 3%.

Following a period in which price pressures had remained subdued, the latest increase has brought inflation closer to the upper bound of the range.
