Emperador Inc. (EMI) has outlined the procedures for collecting and remitting the Philippine stock transaction tax (STT) on the sale of its shares traded on the Singapore Exchange Securities Trading Limited (SGX-ST).

The STT, currently 0.1% of the gross selling price, is a final tax payable by the seller and must be withheld by the selling stockbroker at settlement. Singapore brokers may transfer the collected STT to the Philippines Bureau of Internal Revenue through BDO Securities Corporation, which acts as the designated receiving and remitting agent, or via other approved channels such as affiliated Philippine brokers.

As of this announcement, the brokers onboarded with BDO Securities are: CGS-CIMB Securities (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.; Citigroup Global Markets Singapore Securities Pte. Ltd.; CLSA Singapore Pte. Ltd.; Daiwa Capital Markets Singapore Limited; DBS Vickers Securities (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.; iFAST Financial Pte. Ltd.; Instinet Singapore Services Pte. Ltd.; JP Morgan Securities Singapore Private Limited; KGI Securities (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.; Lim & Tan Securities Pte. Ltd.; Macquarie Capital Securities (Singapore) Pte. Limited; Maybank Securities Pte. Ltd.; OCBC Securities Pte. Ltd.; Philip Securities Pte. Ltd.; Tiger Brokers (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.; UBS Securities Pte. Ltd.; and UOB Kay Hian Private Limited.

If a broker’s arrangement with the receiving agent ends, the broker must implement alternative remittance procedures before continuing to facilitate trading in EMI shares, otherwise clients may be unable to trade the stock.

Under Republic Act No. 12214, also known as the Capital Markets Efficiency Promotion Act, the 0.1% STT rate will remain in place from Jul, 01 2025 onward. Investors are advised to consult their tax and legal advisers, as well as their brokers, regarding STT payments and any additional charges that may apply.
