During the National Day holiday, while families gathered to celebrate, the construction site of the Xinggang Expressway project was bustling with activity. Machinery roared as construction workers stayed at the front line, racing against time to meet deadlines, ensure quality, and maintain safety, seizing the golden construction period to accelerate project progress.
Recently, with the precise positioning and welding of the final steel arch rib weighing 52.6 tons, the left half of the steel arch bridge over Dongting Road on Section 2 of Xinggang Expressway officially completed its closure. The closed steel arch bridge has a total length of 200 metres, a single-width of 29.15 metres, an arch rib rise of 39.2 metres, and a maximum height of 54 metres above the existing road surface. The total weight of the entire bridge exceeds 5,500 tons, making it the largest long-span heavy steel structure bridge along railways across roads in northern China.
It is understood that the third sub-section of Section 2 of Xinggang Expressway has a total length of 4.6 kilometres, entirely consisting of bridge sections, built to a high standard of ten lanes in both directions. It includes three key control projects: the super-large bridge over Dongting Road, the super-large bridge on the shared section of Twelfth Avenue, and the Xinbei Road interchange, serving as an important landmark project for regional collection and distribution.
The successful closure of the left half of the steel arch bridge not only lays a solid foundation for the lateral movement of the bridge and subsequent construction, but also accelerates the full line opening scheduled for the end of 2027.
