Jilin Hotel Faces Scrutiny After Guest Discovers Stained Pillow Filling, Management Pledges Replacement

A visitor who checked into a hotel in Hunchun, Jilin Province, on August 7th reported finding a yellowed pillow core with extensive spotting. The guest, speaking on August 11th, said the issue came to light after noticing an odd smell from the bedding, leading to the discovery of the soiling. The traveler stated they remained awake throughout the night and left early the next morning.

Hotel staff initially attributed the stains to oxidation of the pillow filling and confirmed that new pillows had been ordered for replacement. A hotel manager later suggested the discoloration might have resulted from hair dye seeping into the pillow, left by a previous customer. Following mediation through the booking platform, a partial refund was issued, and the manager pledged to investigate the guest's concerns further.

The affected guest confirmed that the platform had processed a full refund and stated that no compensation is being sought, though they urged the hotel to improve its hygiene standards. Officials from the Hunchun Health Bureau noted a preliminary assessment indicating a possible issue with the pillow's original purchase, and an investigation is ongoing.
