Chenming Paper’s 2025 ESG Review: RMB 218 Million Green Outlay, 17.7% Renewable Energy Share, Zero Major Safety Incidents

Shandong Chenming Paper Holdings Limited (Chenming Paper) has released its 2025 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, detailing progress across climate action, resource efficiency, safety and governance.

Environmental Highlights • Environmental capex reached RMB 218.04 million, channelled mainly into odour abatement, ultra-low-emission retrofits and rain-sewage diversion at key mills. • Total Scope 1 greenhouse-gas emissions stood at 1.62 million tCO₂e; Scope 2 emissions were 0.18 million tCO₂e. Renewable energy (biomass and solar) supplied 17.74% of total energy consumption, equal to 0.81 million MWh. • Water withdrawal totalled 58.62 million m³, with a 4.82% recycling rate; wastewater discharge met 100% compliance, and two isolated offline exceedances at Huanggang were rectified through a RMB 380 million upgrade programme. • Solid-waste management saw 488,111 t of non-hazardous and 295 t of hazardous waste treated under full regulatory compliance. • The group manages 609,900 mu of forest resources (approx. 40,660 ha), 96% of which are sustainably certified, sequestering an estimated 1 million t CO₂e.

Operational & Product Responsibility • ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and multiple China Environmental Labelling certifications remain in force. Finished-paper yield reached 98.2%; market claim rate was contained at 0.36‰. • Customer-satisfaction survey (280 valid responses) returned an 85.78% approval rating; all 416 complaints were closed. • R&D spending totalled RMB 93.26 million, supporting 13 research projects and 24 new patent grants (cumulative patents: 495). Focus areas include zero-plastic packaging and green papermaking technologies. • Digitalisation advanced with full deployment of SAP ERP, MES, AI-based quality diagnostics and an app-based raw-material management system.

Workforce & Safety • Headcount: 8,992, with women representing 24.18%. • Training coverage reached 100%, averaging 92 hours per employee. • No fatalities or occupational-disease cases occurred; 38 injuries resulted in 3,952 lost workdays. Over 6,500 employees joined 32 safety-training sessions, while 485 emergency drills were conducted.

Supply-Chain & Governance • The company managed 683 suppliers (91.3% domestic) under a tiered evaluation framework; 12 audits and 24 training sessions were completed. • Compliance systems yielded 27 resolved ethics complaints and two corruption cases transferred to authorities. • Independent directors account for 36.36% of the 11-member board; women comprise 18.18%.

Forward Targets (2026) Chenming Paper aims to achieve zero major environmental incidents, a 100% pollutant-compliance rate, a 20,000-t surplus in national carbon-trading quotas, and maintain full rectification of identified safety and environmental hazards.
