Hong Kong–listed CSPC Pharmaceutical Group Limited (CSPC Pharma) has signed a joint-venture contract with AstraZeneca to build a new-generation biologics manufacturing plant in Shijiazhuang, China.
Under the agreement, CSPC Pharma will hold a 51% equity stake and AstraZeneca 49%. Both parties will co-manage construction and daily operations, combining CSPC Pharma’s AI-driven GMP system and large-scale manufacturing expertise with AstraZeneca’s global quality standards and supply-chain management.
The initial business scope covers manufacturing and supply of mutually agreed biologics drug substances for global markets. Subject to demand growth and capacity expansion, additional products may be incorporated later. Completion of the transaction is contingent on customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.
Management stated that the collaboration demonstrates multinational recognition of CSPC Pharma’s modernised manufacturing system and execution capabilities, while leveraging AstraZeneca’s extensive global experience in R&D, quality, manufacturing, and commercialisation.
The venture marks CSPC Pharma’s expansion from “going global with products and technologies” to “going global with manufacturing systems and supply-chain capabilities,” positioning the group to better serve international demand for high-quality, innovative medicines.
