In a recent development, a small family-run noodle shop in Nanyang, Henan province, named "Yujian Xiaomian" (roughly "Chongqing Meet Noodles") faced a trademark infringement lawsuit from the restaurant chain XIAO NOODLES, sparking public debate.
According to media reports, the owner of the "Yujian Xiaomian" shop tearfully explained the situation, stating that the lawsuit alleged trademark infringement. She reported that the opposing lawyer indicated that to settle and have the case withdrawn, she would need to pay compensation of around seven to eight thousand yuan. "My noodles are eight yuan a bowl," she said. "I'd have to sell at least 1,000 bowls to cover that, and that's not even accounting for my costs."
In response to the controversy, XIAO NOODLES issued an official statement. The company acknowledged that the trademark enforcement action initiated by its third-party law firm against "Yujian Xiaomian" had attracted significant attention and discussion.
After understanding the full circumstances, the company stated it had communicated on June 12th to withdraw the lawsuit against "Yujian Xiaomian." XIAO NOODLES also stated it is reflecting on its trademark protection procedures.
The company emphasized that it also started as a small shop and understands the challenges of entrepreneurship, expressing respect for the hard work of all business operators.
