General Motors' stock surged 5.03% during intraday trading on Wednesday, driven by a wave of positive analyst commentary and reports highlighting the company's expanding growth drivers beyond traditional auto manufacturing.

Multiple major financial institutions raised their price targets on GM, reflecting growing optimism. Goldman Sachs increased its target to $103 from $91, while TD Cowen maintained a Buy rating with a $132 target, stating the case for multiple expansion has never been stronger. Other firms including Morgan Stanley, BNP Paribas, Deutsche Bank, and Barclays also issued upward revisions. Analysts pointed to GM's expanding revenue streams in high-margin software, insurance, and its defense unit as pivotal for future growth.

Supporting this bullish outlook were specific business updates. GM is working to scale its defense unit, which is expected to log nearly $700 million in revenue this year. Concurrently, the company is investing up to $1.5 billion to onshore production to the U.S. and expand its software capabilities, with over 1 million new software subscriptions expected this year. Furthermore, a pending U.S. Senate bill to crack down on Chinese automakers could benefit domestic manufacturers like GM, which is already shifting production of some models from China to the United States.
