US Treasury Secretary Bassett stated in an interview with British media that the Iran war is "worth a small economic cost," as he prepares for a potentially tense meeting with UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Reeves. "If London were hit with a nuclear weapon, what would be the impact on global GDP?" Bassett remarked. "I'm more focused on long-term security than short-term forecasts."

Relations between the two nations appear increasingly strained. On Tuesday, Reeves delivered her strongest criticism to date of the war initiated by the Trump administration in the Middle East and its disruptive effects on the global economy. "I do feel deeply frustrated and angry that America started this war without a clear exit plan or defined objectives. Now we have the Strait of Hormuz blocked," she stated.

The UK Chancellor is currently in Washington attending the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Spring Meetings and is scheduled to meet with Bassett on Wednesday. She added, "No sensible person supports the Iranian regime, but starting a conflict without clear goals is, I believe, foolish. This approach is affecting families in the UK, the US, and around the world."
