Regulator Takes Optus to Court Over Alleged Emergency Call Breaches

Optus Finance Pty Limited said that Optus Mobile Pty Limited was notified on Jul, 30 2026 that the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has initiated Federal Court proceedings, alleging 1,005 breaches of the Telecommunications (Emergency Call Service) Determination 2019 on Sep, 18 2025.

The company is reviewing the pleadings and will respond in due course. It added that any financial penalties remain undetermined and will ultimately be set by the court, which may apply an overall amount it considers appropriate rather than a direct calculation per alleged contravention.

Optus Finance Pty Limited and Optus Mobile Pty Limited are wholly owned subsidiaries of Singtel Optus Pty Limited. The companies declined to provide further comment while the matter is before the court.
