Robinhood CEO Forecasts AI Agents Achieving Human-Level Trading Proficiency in Near Future

Robinhood's Chief Executive Vlad Tenev stated on Thursday that agentic artificial intelligence will attain capabilities in trading equivalent to those of humans.

Agentic technology—AI that can perform tasks for users—has been hailed by many in the tech industry as potentially transformative, with major players including OpenAI and Anthropic racing to develop such products.

Robinhood launched a tool in May of this year that allows AI agents to trade stocks and make purchases on behalf of users.

"The idea behind agentic trading... is that every single capability a human has, an AI agent will have," Tenev told media on Thursday.

"Prior to founding Robinhood, I was an institutional participant doing programmatic trading, and what you may not realize is a very large chunk of trading is already automated and AI-driven."

"But that intelligence and sophistication has been inaccessible to the general public," he added.

"The ultimate goal for Robinhood agentic trading is to give the general public access to the same tools, the same compute power, and the same capabilities that institutional investors and high-frequency trading firms have enjoyed for decades."

On Wednesday, Robinhood stated it would expand its European footprint by launching cryptocurrency trading in the United Kingdom.

Shares of Robinhood rose approximately 2% in pre-market trading on Thursday, following an 8% gain on Wednesday, closing with a market capitalization of $98 billion. The stock is down about 5% year-to-date in 2026.

In April, Robinhood reported first-quarter profit that missed expectations as crypto-driven market volatility dampened trading activity. Market conditions have since improved, with easing Middle East tensions and stronger equity markets supporting retail trading activity.

That same month, Robinhood announced it would partner with the U.S. Treasury and Bank of New York Mellon to serve as the broker and custodian for the yet-to-be-launched "Trump Account."

"The goal is to make this the best consumer product the government has ever been associated with," Tenev said.

Robinhood stated in a release that it serves nearly 28 million customers across 38 countries and three continents.

Earlier this month, Robinhood cut 10% of its workforce to enhance operational efficiency.

"Robinhood's business has never been stronger," Tenev said in a memo to employees posted on social media platform X.

"We cannot default to operating with layers of management. We must be a lean, highly focused team," he added.
