Iran Targets Kuwaiti Water and Power Facilities in Retaliation for U.S. Military Action

The conflict in the Middle East is intensifying, with civilian infrastructure facing growing threats, as Iran has launched an attack on water and power plants in Kuwait in retaliation for U.S. military strikes.

The Kuwaiti government stated on Friday that a desalination and power generation facility was hit, resulting in damage to multiple generating units.

While similar facilities in Kuwait were targeted during the peak of the U.S.-Iran conflict from March to early April, this marks the first time Tehran has aimed at electrical infrastructure during this latest escalation.

Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity and Water posted on X that authorities are working to restore the damaged units to operation and have extinguished a fire caused by the assault.

The ministry has urged residents to conserve electricity to ease pressure on the power grid. As one of the world's hottest countries, Kuwait's grid is typically under heavy strain during the summer months, with temperatures potentially reaching 50 degrees Celsius this weekend.

Kuwait is a key U.S. ally in the region. It remains unclear whether any power outages have occurred as a result of the attack.
